Bachelor's or master's thesis on the topic of data in vehicles for accident reconstruction

Due to legal regulations, if the collision is sufficiently intense, cars (M1) and light commercial vehicles (N1) store driving data that can clarify the course of an accident even before the collision. Triggering this driving data storage causes an airbag to be triggered or a speed change (delta-V) of more than 8 km/h within 150 ms.

Tasks

In the event of a collision between an M1 or N1 vehicle and a pedestrian or cyclist, the current criteria for initiating storage of driving data in an EDR are generally not met. It should therefore be investigated how existing sensors in vehicles can detect even a slight impact against vulnerable road users. As different solutions my be possible, interested students should first examine the sensor technology in today's vehicles and use a literature search to check what options exist for solving the problem. In addition, the solutions should be developed to such an extent that tests can be carried out with available vehicles in order to examine the possible solutions. The tests must then be evaluated.

Qualifications

The task is aimed at students in the fields of automotive technology, vehicle electronics and applied computer science who want to do a written thesis. The scope of the work can be adapted to the type of thesis.

Benefits / Remuneration

Students are supervised by expert vehicle technology engineers from our offices in Dresden, Berlin or Saarbrücken. Due to the cooperation with a large number of universities, collaboration with other locations should also be possible without any problems.

For the time of actual processing, students receive remuneration in accordance with the mini-job law (currently EUR 556 per month).

Concluding remarks

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We have already supervised many theses and can certainly help you. We are also interested in supervising theses on other topics in the field of accident reconstruction.
