Research on gaze shift strategies is an important part of understanding the physiological causes of accidents. This paper presents an analytic tool to record, examine and analyse gaze shifts. With the help of a special appliance that records gaze shifts, saccades towards individual objects can be exactly determined. Moreover, the entire gaze shift strategy can be documented completely. These fundamentals of gaze shift behaviour allow for further insights on the limits of human information reception, which again point to the limitations of the human visual capacity.
