This paper deals with lane change crashes, i.e. accidents that happen when a driver on a dual carriageway changes the lane overlooking a vehicle driving at a similar level on a different lane. Practice has shown that the question ‘who changed the lane?’ cannot be answered relying on damage photographs only. Further reconstruction possibilities have to be explored. One starting point is the post-collision motion of the impacted vehicle. 15 collision tests were conducted. Using a computer-aided simulation, it was possible to simulate the vehicles’ motion at least in principle. The paper analyses the tests and evaluates the computer simulation.
